... well, solo for the opening track. -a liquid state- is a mellow, melting piece of marshy machine music. warmth flows as clicks and clacks orbit a soft and soothing syntheline in a track that epitomises the term ambient techno. acronym, of northern electronics and semantica fame, takes over the controls for the flip. percussion is folded and refolded, layered into itself into a hypnotic haze. behind these blurred beats a burbling bass bulges as gentle key strokes scatter for a remix brimming with textures and intensity.

schwefelgelb is the electronic music project of sid & eddy. having carefully straddled the boundaries between techno, ebm and electro, the duo is entering 2016 with a 12” release on the new label incarnation of the berlin based fleisch collective. fleisch consists of a group of miscreants known for throwing some of the best curated dark underground dance parties in berlin, with a focus on sounds ranging from e.b.m., new beat, acid to techno. the metamorphosis of fleisch into a label could not demand a more fitting debut than schwefelgelb’s newest sonic discharge. tight programming, catchy analog synth-bass coupled with well utilized & frenetic shouted vocals echo the golden age of electronic body music. a refreshing progression of sounds moves the style forward without being afflicted with the formulaic and hollow tendencies befallen similar attempts by others acts over the years.

after 9 years of silence, here’s the 11th album from the unclassifiable brussels-based duo. with their usual tamping drums (just mention the two parts of “the decision to exist” or “same area”, led by a ferocious 808), a regular bass guitar hammering, some bare minimum poor voices, threatened violins, skinbound flute and oboe here and there, a distorted furious piano everywhere and finally some tiny cautious optimism (the extra-human guitar in “enough slaps”), the whole is carefully assembled in order to obtain an accurate picture of life on earth. “pain” and “pleasure” are different aspects of the same mental construction.

cyclo is relaunching with an absolute classic track from its extensive back catalogue. produced by derrick carter & chris nazuka the chicago house classic rednail kidz -do my thing- was an underground smash when it was first released at the end of the 90 s. clubs nights such as space at bar rhumba rocked hard to the incessant groove of this track. we have included a remastered original with 3 remixes: the nacho marco remix takes -do my thing- into big room territory. nacho works closely with roland and on this remix you can witness big 303 lines and huge bass that will rock most discerning floors. hallo halo (jon dasilva & jonas nilsson) remix the track superbly and add their trademark warm tech sound. mystic bill creates a stunning, deep, chicago inspired, sonic journey of a remix where less is, most certainly, more. we hope you will enjoy these tracks as much as we are!

having unleashed the beast that is his debut lp columbusing, thatmanmonkz grants a couple more heavyweight producers permission to get busy with the sonic manglers for remixes of turn it out and boogie down. first up, one of the vocalist contributors to the lp dave aju (known for his releases on circus company) takes on his own track turn it out, transforming the original from a backyard bbq summer jam into some kind of mutant electro p-funk meets broken- beat fusion. a filtered bass line and bare bones 808 kicks are what this track is all about forming the perfect rhythmic union with the vocal.

for the latest instalment in the apollonia story we look to argentina and the talented producer federico molinari. having been based in germany for the last couple of decades, federico has refined his sound, developing a strong signature through his dj sets and his studio productions, most of which he has released via his label oslo. federicos ability to craft effortless grooves and timeless rhythms is evident here on this killer new three-tracker. side a is the eight-minute long roller * congo toys*. the focus here is on a crisp 4x4 beat, which keeps things simple – under this lies a sturdy bassline. all the while, the low end is accompanied by a series of bleeps, which could almost be the chatter between two archaic computers, modulated and weaving in and out of the beats and bass. on the flip, we have two more dance floor-ready joints. like * congo toys*, * tres cuartos* is focused around a simple foundation, with layers of unusual effects – an overriding sense of playfulness comes through in molinaris production, perfect for the boogie down crew. last up, * joyfex* takes us further into leftfield, hypnotic, hazy atmospherics draw us into their web and we are tangled up in a mesh of vibrating whirrs and echoing, distorted voices. sublime business from an apollonia favorite…

the a side delivers a techno track and a funkier one, both of which will take you on a boat trip into an infected swamp lost somewhere in southern italy. at the same time on the b side marcello’s voodoo ritual will take possession of your body with two full-house tracks. café nanà is a crazed drive of broken percussions “and vibrant field-recordings of cups and glasses banging together in a smoke-filled, sun-drenched, cafe” while waiting for my bass is a warehouse melter reminiscent of gene hunt’s rawest works.

for its 4th release, malka tuti is welcoming j.a.k.a.m. to its ever-expanding family. born in tokyo japan, j.a.k.a.m. has been been one of the leading figures developing the music scene in japan from the early 90s as a dj, producer and a band member. his wide variety of musical influences ranges from house, hip hop, drum&bass, techno, reggae, jazz, rock and world music. with combining these different styles of inspirations and tradition, he creates the most unique time and space on the dance floor, a kind of fusion of early tribal house (recording live instruments in the studio), world music with a pinch of shamanic spiritual vibes. on his ep for malka tuti he delivers 2 original epic tunes, followed by a smokey dub version by versatile records boss gilb r and a total dance-floor smashing remix by aussie prodigy - dreems.

jey kurmis needs little introduction after an amazing 2015. the hot creations and moon harbour favorite delivers a stomping underground ep with fellow producer shannon. two underground bass driven tech originals are complimented with remixes from man of the moment jacky, whilst apollo 84 shows us why he s in demand for remixes with his collab alongside konflicted soul.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

during their european tour earlier this year, canadian duo jokers of the scene stopped over for a couple of days at club bizarre studio in northern france. the two pair of producers locked up and came up with betaville and breakwater, two killer lo-fi and spaced out tracks. betaville is a fuzzy dream that will make you dance in slow motion with your head in the clouds. boasting a strong melodic and nostalgic feel, it unfolds its warm analog synth pads, old school sequences and drum machine to psychedelic effect. imagine boards of canada wanting to make you dance. even slower is breakwater, a dirtier, chunkier track that ditches the softness of betaville in favour of a more in your face bass line and all together rougher attitude. it chugs along to old fashioned beat box claps and percussion and quirky synth melodies. lastly betaville gets the timothy j fairplay treatment of being violently pulled apart and chucked in all corners. reminiscent of early chemical brothers music, a heavy beat slaps over agressive drugged up analog sound effects while a repetitive, haunting melody screams on top and reverberated vocals whisper in your ears. scary.

following his uplifting 2015 single holdin on and its techy b-side faces, rony seikaly is back for another release on yoshitoshi that proves this renaissance man is a force to be reckoned with in modern house music. the two tracks on this ep possess deep grooves, but also flex a fair amount of melodic muscle. they liken back to the sound yoshitoshi became well known for in its infancy. the sword centers around some tribal percussion and carefully woven melodic ideas, but the track?s focus is decidedly on low end. a burly, assertive bass gives the mix a driving character suited for late nights. at time it feels like a modern take on progressive house from another era. all of a sudden is more or less an extension of the first track, giving the ep defined consistency. it s a delicately arranged and straightforward house feeler, the meat coming from a multitude of interlaced chords and melodies maneuvering carefully over more tribal percussion and a monstrous kick. the mission here is to inspire awe and wonder in dancers, and seikaly delivers on both accounts.

the enigmatic hyenah steps into the spotlight once again for its third freerange release, following hot on the heels of their objektivity debut which is still causing major waves worldwide. with a distinctive sound which melds afro-influenced rhythms with european deep and minimal house sensibilities, hyenah has won many fans from across the dance spectrum and can be tracked down to a certain well known club in berlin which hosts its regular party known as rise. the idea unleashes a powerful blast of percussion-heavy beats which form the perfect foundation for sas lazarusman to lay down his distinctive spoken-word vocal. the track builds steadily, the intensity increasing throughout as extra stabs and layers of strings soar above the pulsing synths and throbbing sub bass.

following on from their hard hitting previous release quarantine , east london s phil passera & chieka ononye deliver their 4th release as payfone on new york s golf channel recordings. a side catholic central emerges from a dark street corner to bloom into a moody synth and bass heavy rhythm, before colliding with a disco riff that could have easily been borrowed from the master tapes of late 1970 s atlanta outfit brick. featuring the vocal style of argentinian pia gonzalez antar, who in confession recalls the dark dynamic of a relationship with a previous lover many years her senior. the room shaking b side comes courtesy of d marc cantu s haze mix that delivers a pounding late night electronic soul voyage. cantu has been releasing genre defying records since the late 2000 s, and performs as one third of jakbeat super group x2 alongside traxx & jtc.  golf channel every time !
